Shocking news about Beatz

Last weekend was full of drama. We were shocked to get a legal notice from our competitor where they have got an injunction (stay order) from Madras High Court to stop offering Beatz for download. So, what is the reason they have claimed for this?

  • They say we have stolen their code and we are offering the product for free. This was fully false & baseless allegation. We spent almost 3 months to develop this wonderful product.
  • Also they claim offering freebies is against competition laws. But we have used Joomla as the framework for the development of this product and we feel by using an open source it is only ethical to offer the product for free.

Also what disappoints me is;

  • All of a sudden we get an injunction order and we were not given a chance or prior notice to prove our point of view.
  • Also they have timed this at a time where courts are on a vacation and we have to wait till courts reopen.

I take this opportunity to inform my customers, employees and friends that this product is genuinely developed by Cogzidel’s team and we will prove our credentials as soon as the courts reopen.

For people who have downloaded the script before 23 May 2009 can use the script because we received the injunction only on 23rd May. There is absolutely no issues with this because we have enough evidence to prove that we have developed this product.

At this point I must thank my team members (Senthil, Sathick, Bala Krishnan, Boopathi and Major Karthik) who are my support and strength. They gave me the motivation and energy I needed.

Also I once again take this opportunity to thank customers and employees for their support.

If you want to help us you can do that by offering valid legal points, writing blogs, by tweeting on twitter, making forum posts against these kinds of unhealthy business practice and you can use any other legitimate ways which can help us get support of the community.

Interview with Mr. Bala Murugan, Co-Founder Cogzidel Consultancy Services Pvt. Ltd.

It is nice to be with Mr. Bala Murugan, Co-Founder of Cogzidel Consultancy Services Pvt Ltd. Bala has hands on experience on finance and has headed the finance department of Cricinfo.com and has done wonders during turbulent times. Also to talk about his qualifications we need to have a separate session, but let me make it simple he is a qualified Charted Accountant, Company Secretary and has got Master of Business Administration. Let us get back to him to know more about him and his Venture.

Q. Hello Bala. Can you tell us about yourself?

A. Well, I’m a Tamil-speaking Indian. Born and brought up in Chennai. Graduated from Vivekananda College. As listed by you, I possess CA, ACS, MBA plus certifications on business administration, management and advanced commercial / technical applications. Did my CA articleship with Brahmayya & Co (one of the leading CA firms in Chennai) and happened to be part of their audit team for about 45 clients.

My career started with www.cricinfo.com (now, it’s an ESPN company) as Asst. Manager – Finance. Was able to become the Director – Finance through my performance. Fortunate enough to head many departments like Finance, Accounts, Secretarial, HR and Office Administration. Apart from cricinfo.com, I held directorships in couple of ESPN subsidiaries in India and also, in Agriya Infoway Pvt Ltd.

Q. When & how did your entrepreneur desire blossom?

A. For anyone who passes his life as an employee, there would be a wish in his mind to become a boss for himself and I’m no exception. As an entrepreneur, I can take decisions on my own. I can try anything that flashes in my mind. I’m responsible for every single move. These are some factors that triggered my passion to be an entrepreneur.

Q. What are your hobbies other than your business?

A. Browsing the net, reading magazines, listening to melodious songs, watching movies, socialising with people, meeting friends (and not relatives).

Q. Tell us how CCS took shape?

A. There are many entrepreneurs and SMEs who are unable to find a suitable firm to take care of their support functions like accounting, payroll, taxation etc. Even if they have engaged someone, they feel that the services are either unprofessional or biased or expensive.

This study became an emerging factor for incorporating a company which will focus on helping people to have their support functions discharged in a smooth way. This helps them to concentrate on operating the business and we take care of the rest.

Q. Tell the challenges you faced (Pre formation & post formation)?

A. Undoubtedly, the 3Ms are the basic requirements of any business – Men, Material and Money. In other words, I could define it as Team building, Infrastructure and Working Capital. These were our challenges before formation and we were fortunate enough to overcome this problem.

Challenges during the post-formation are mainly in to client handling and delivery. The perspectives and requirements of each client differ from others. Hence, it becomes a challenge to face every query in different style. The job involves lots of clerical, tiresome and roaming work. ‘Time’ is an important factor that needs to be controlled properly.

Q. Tell us about CCS business model & Services?

A. CCS business model works like this:

Client Enquiry à Analysis à Designing the solution à Fee Negotiation à Delivery

We always intend to continue our relationship with clients even post-delivery. Hence, we render many value added services to our clients, as and when required.

Services rendered can be briefed as follows:

- Accounting Services (including Internal Audit)
- Payroll Processing
- Company Incorporation
- Regn of co-operative society / trust / partnership firm
- Employee-friendly Tax planning
- Filing IT returns
- Obtaining PAN / TAN / DIN / DSC
- Statutory compliances – PF / ESI / Profession Tax/ Sales Tax / Service Tax / STPI etc
- Trademark / Patent Registration
- Business Incubation Services
- Drafting Agreements
- Other related activities

Q. Will this recession have any impact in your plans? If yes how do you plan to overcome this recession?

A. I do not see this recession as an opposite factor for our business. In fact, we are in outsourcing services and hence, we expect more business orders to reach us. This recession has given us additional responsibility of advising our clients on how to save/control costs.

Q. What are your future plans?

A. Like an USP, I would like to establish a BSP – ‘Best Service Provider’ for our business. I would like to capture a unique place in the market for rendering back-end services. I want CCS to spread across all over India. Also, exploring the possibilities of go beyond the boundaries of our country, by attracting international clients.

Q. Any marketing pitch?

A. Yes, we do marketing by participating in social networking programs (both offline and online), writing interesting blogs, advertising on newspapers, sponsoring events etc. We would like to increase the level of participation. Our clients refer their friends and help us to market our services and reach the desired goals.

Q. What is your advice for new startups and wannabe entrepreneurs?

A. My first advice to entrepreneurs is ‘Don’t take any advice at first shot’. Listen what people say from their past experience. It’s not that every technique that a successful business man adopts will fetch the same value for others. You need to analyse whether the advice fits your requirement, your interest and your preference.

I could list down few necessities, but I think these are applicable for everyone in the business world. These are not exhaustive, but important qualities:

-          Self-confidence

-          Dedication

-          Sincerity

-          Trustworthy

-          Perfection

-          Leadership

-          Relationship

My extreme thanks to Anand for letting me share my thoughts and views. Would be great if readers can correct me if I’m wrong on anything.

Thank you very much Bala for sparing your valuable time with us and it was really inspiring to be with you. We wish you all the very best.

RBS – Cogzidel’s first product launched

RBS – Cogzidel’s first product was launched on late hours of 25th March, 2009 at 23.45 IST… It is a proud and exciting moment for the entire Cogzidel team… I take this opportunity to thank Mr.Senthil Guru who started the project and Mr.Sathick Basha who took over from Senthil and completed the mission… I must also thank Mr.Pandi who assisted Sathick, Mr.Saravanan for CSS work, Mr.Major Karthik for his design, Mr.Bala Subramaniyam for managing and getting the product out successfully, last but not least it is our Bala Krishnan for his commitment and passion he contributed a lot encouraging the team and he acted as System Analyst for the project…

I’ll write a detailed blog about the product tomorrow… For now let me keep it brief; RBS is abbreviation for Reverse Bidding System, it is a bidding system which is developed by taking inspiration from Scriptlance.com… We have more features in mind to make the product unique and we will be evolving the product in a phased manner by releasing update at frequent intervals which will be bundled with new features and patches…

Product is launched under Creative Common license and is offered for free… This must be a bonanza for webmasters… We are offering the project for free to create more entrepreneurs & webmasters… You can think why we are offering it for free, let me explain it with an example,

“A has one rupee and B has one rupee… Both exchange that rupee… They go home with one rupee each!
But if A has one idea and B has one idea… Both exchange that idea… They go home with two ideas.”

Same way when we offer something for free lots of people will try it and it will create an eco-system where it will create lots of opportunity for many people and ideas will be flowing… So, we want to create such a eco-system and that is why we are offering the product for free…

In coming days I think there will be lots of success stories and I wish it happens soon……

Major Karthik honored us by launching the product… Here is the launch picture…

It is now official

Yes. It is official that the person whom we doubted is the real hacker… Also hacking was done using some holes in Scriptlance… Ok now let me explain the post events that happened after our previous blog post…

We go an email from the hacker and bala invited him for a chat in Yahoo!… The hacker acknowledged and they started negotiating terms… Parallely we were also working with Scriptlance guys… Yesterday bala proved me a point that every time we can’t mean business… Bala convinced the hacker claiming his act has cost him his job and some how got hold of the account… The hacker seems to be of good heart :) , by now I think bala and hacker must have become good pals…

In the mean time Scriptlance was prompt in suspending the account and they started the act after we our self recovered the account from the hacker… But now we have to release the account from suspension… Scriptlance had some IVR system to confirm the phone number, they asked for last three transactions and the bank account used to withdraw the funds from Scriptlance… Also they asked an ID proof… At last we got our account released from suspension…

What worried me was Scriptlance didn’t give us any reason & assurance that this will never occur again… Also they deleted our post in their forum where we posted that our account was hacked and asked if there were any other person who has lost his/her account, which means Scriptlance forum is not transparent…

What ever the case many be we got the account back and the funds in the account is also safe… Today I’m having a meeting with bala to see how we can cope with marketing without Scriptlance…

Now Cogzidel has a William Wordsworth

It is always nice to get motivation from someone… Also in an organization if someone take initiative and start showing the path it is even more exciting… Today I think we have two mangoes in one shot… I’m doubly thrilled… The reason is;

We are opening up night shift from tomorrow and I don’t know if people have fully accepted the change… When we communicated this information in our mailer, Ms.Narmatha started a loop of fun with her poetry skills… It brought the entire situation to funny zone and people started telling they are the ones who will be working on the night shift… Here goes her quote;

“Hai,
How lucky the moon is!
Finally it got the chance to enter his rays into Cogzidel.
Take care Friends.”

Here is a screenshot of her mail, which has a reply from saravana proudly claiming that he one among the lucky ones to work under the moon :(

Launch of 5dollarservices.com

5DollarServices one of the service model was launched on Feb 23, 2009… It took a while to share those photos…To tell a brief about the service, the idea originated from road side vendors in Chennai who sell toys / fancy items for a flat fee, ie: what ever you buy from that shop it costs a flat fee…

There are lots of services which can be offered at low cost and I thought I can create a platform for people offering those service and end-users… Already we got some positive response from service providers and you can expect more action in the site soon…

Here are some of the launch snaps…

Launching of Cogzidel.com

March 18, 2009 must be a special day in my diary… We started Cogzidel Technologies on September 14, 2008 and it took us six month to launch our corporate site… There are plenty of reasons I can give, but I know there is no excuse for the delay… Anyways it is better late than never…

I must thank Mr.Bala Krishnan, Mr.Bala Subramaniyam & Mr.Major Karthik for single handedly taking the responsibility and get it done… Thanks a lot guys you have done a great job and there were some feedback received in twitter which were also positive…

Here are some snaps taken during the launch…

Cogzidel Attrition Report Sep 08 – Mar 09!!!

Today i’m excited to get this report from my HR Manager Mr.Boopathi… I’m thrilled for two reasons

  1. There were many specialised HR’s who worked for me who didnt do this…
  2. Boopathi is not specialised HR in terms of qualification or experience…

One nice take away form this experience is, hire people who have passion than specialization… Also i must not say i’m inspired because of this report, he has always excelled in all aspects of HR’s function…
